March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness month. Colorectal Cancer is treatable with good outcomes, if detected early enough, so regular preventative screenings are key to avoiding this disease. If you are 50-75 years old, schedule your Colorectal Cancer screenings regularly. These screenings range from non-invasive tests such as CT Colonography and mail-in, home stool collection tests to minimally invasive tests like Colonoscopy and Sigmoidoscopy. Ask your provider which screening test is right for you. Also, be sure to make the simple lifestyle changes to prevent Colorectal Cancer—maintain a healthy weight, limit red meat and processed meats in your diet, get regular exercise and limit alcohol intake. And, be sure to talk to your provider about any family history or other underlying issues that could cause you to be at a higher risk of developing the disease.
