Did you know that there are over 300 different types of bacteria living in our mouths?
Many of these bacteria can cause tooth decay. They can also be contagious like other infectious diseases.
To keep bacteria under control, practice good dental hygiene every day. Brushing and flossing twice a day helps rid your mouth of bad bacteria and prevents tooth decay.

Other measures you can take to maintain a healthy mouth include avoiding the following:
- Sweets
- Sweetened drinks
- Cigarettes
- Chewing tobacco
Drinking plenty of water, instead of sugary drinks, will encourage a healthy mouth and support overall health.
The most important thing you can do for your mouth is to see your dentist and dental hygienist regularly. We recommend 6-month intervals. Routine dental cleanings and preventative care keep your mouth healthy and reduce the need for more involved dental work later.
