Community Health Center officially unveils 40-foot unit
February 25, 2025 - With a touch of the same anticipation experienced by one of many expectant mothers in their professional care, the providers and staff of Sterling Health Care (SHC) can finally announce the official arrival of their newest expansion to its family.
After months of waiting before enduring frigid temperatures on the big day (Tuesday, Feb. 18), a team of SHC management welcomed its 40-foot, 26,000-pound addition with open arms at the Kentucky Primary Care Association (KPCA) outside of Frankfort, Ky. Team members openly expressed their appreciation for the wait to finally be over, then quickly turned to discussions about the hopes and opportunities the new mobile clinic affords to the neighbors and communities it serves.
“Improving the lives of all people in the communities we serve is always going to be our mission,” said Tina Bryant, SHC Chief Executive Officer. “As a Federally Qualified Health Center, we take great pride in the many professional health services we offer in and around Montgomery County, including transportation to our brick-and-mortar clinics in Mount Sterling, Carlisle, Owingsville, Paris, Stanton and Winchester. Now we’ve added an entirely new element, able to bring medical and dental care from professionals directly to schools and areas close to them.
“Our sliding fee scale is still applicable as well in this unit, so these same services that are now mobile are also still extremely affordable to those who qualify.”
The complete list of services and benefits made available with this mobile unit include:
The 40-foot long unit includes a medical exam room, a dental suite, a restroom, refrigeration, vaccines, and a phlebotomy area.
Sandy Gifford, a well-known member of the Nicholas County school community and SHC school-based health team, has been named the Mobile Unit Coordinator and shares Bryant’s enthusiasm to get started.
“This is an incredible milestone for patients of Sterling Health Care and for anyone considering a search for a new way of getting quality, affordable care for themselves and/or their families,” she stated. “I’m excited to be a part of this new journey for SHC and hope everyone will check out everything SHC and the mobile unit has to offer.”
The mobile unit was made possible through a grant funded by the State Department for Public Health utilizing funds from the Centers for Disease Control (federal).
