Sterling Health Care’s Growth Attributed to Keeping Mission in Focus

MAY 27, 2022 - MT. STERLING, KY - Expansion of services, annual gains in the number of patients utilizing those services, and a surge of nearly 50 percent employee growth in the past 12 months has established Sterling Health Care (SHC) as a trusted medical resource in Kentucky’s Gateway region. Over the past 10 years, the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) has focused its energy and resources on building a network of clinics and professionals serving the uninsured and under-insured, though all commercial insurances are accepted.

The concept for the area of Mount Sterling and surrounding areas began in 2012 when several founding members of SHC , then known as Sterling Health Solutions, came together as 15-strong and accepted their first patient in October of that same year. From that point, the organization has grown to serve the  needs of more than 25,000 patients in 2021, with nine clinics in Montgomery and four surrounding counties as well as an established school-based health program serving the students, staff and administration of 19 area schools in those same counties.

“Service is at the heart of what we do,” says Chief Executive Officer Tina Bryant, who is also one of the original group. “We work hard to provide for anyone needing assistance, in whatever form that may be, because we genuinely care about our mission of improving the lives of those in the communities we serve. We provide a whole, well-rounded approach to a person’s well-being and are here to help our communities, our neighbors, from all walks of life. We believe our growth reflects the fact that we are continually looking for ways to do that better every day.”

More than 200 employees, including more than 50 medical providers, currently deliver the following range of services:

  • Family Health – Providing care for sick visits, injuries, preventative care, chronic illness care, labs and testing.
  • Children’s Health – Providing well-child visits, effective treatment for many sicknesses, and preventative care including immunizations.
  • School-Based Health – With appropriate approvals and consent, this program provides important service with convenience for students and parents in four counties and 19 area school districts. Immunizations, dental cleanings, school and sport physicals, as well as sick visits can all be addressed without parents losing time at work or waiting in lines for appointments.
  • Dental Care – Providing dental and preventative care to patients of all ages.
  • Behavioral Health – Our highly-trained professionals have developed an integrated approach to work together in addressing a patient’s physical and mental needs. Providers meet weekly to discuss challenges facing the patient and offer solutions based on the full picture.
  • Substance Abuse Treatment – Starting with an evaluation of the patient’s needs at the time of entry into the program, our professionals provide counseling, education, and various forms of assistance to reach success in the recovery process.
  • Patient Portal – Patients can access this system anytime electronically and provide questions or information for providers. The service is confidential, and information is always transmitted securely.
  • Pharmacy – The recent opening of SHC’s second pharmacy displays the company’s commitment to providing solutions for patients. Offering new prescriptions, refills, medication consultation and financial assistance, Sterling Health Care aims to provide quality pharmacy care and convenience throughout their service area.
